Same Concept
In my 20's I barely washed my face. I would get glammed up, go out, then go to bed in my make-up. Brace yourself guys, I sometimes would just apply makeup over already existing day-old makeup, thinking it would give me good coverage. Barf. Ew, I can't, why was I like that? I had great skin, and I didn't deserve it. Yes, I was one of those lucky ones that didn't suffer from acne, but my skincare routine, or lack thereof, left me unprepared for understanding what my skin needs.
I tried all kinds of things, from scrubs to lotions and everything in between, but nothing really stuck until I found Rodan & Fields. I fell in love with the way the products made my skin look and feel. And it was simple. I actually enjoyed washing my face before bed. But it was costly. In fact, it became a pressure point in my marriage. I was paying hundreds of dollars and it would make me feel so guilty. Does any other mom feel that way when they spend that kind of money on themselves?
I'm not going to lie, I still love Rodan & Fields. And if I magically had those products delivered to me for free I would probably still reach for many of them. However, I began selling shampoo a few years ago, and at that time, it was only a haircare company. Then in 2019, they launched skincare. And I was crushed. How could I sell skincare I didn't use? I couldn't. I bought in.
I'm not going to give you some schpeel about why I use the products I use because this blog isn't about that. But if you are interested, I love sharing my goodies. But I am just trying to explain that once you find a routine that you benefit from, is simple, and cost-effective for you, it just makes sense. I pay a lot less, a fraction of what I was paying, and my skin has never been healthier. But what I am getting at is, when you find something that works, performs as it claims, and you love the outcome, you don't skip it. It doesn't matter if we're talking skincare routine or gym routine or what. You start showing up, getting it done because afterward the results are worth the effort.
Even after long nights out with my girls or days that I am exhausted, I still take the time to do my skincare routine. I look in the mirror and I feel accomplished and self-empowered that I have chosen to take care of myself. You have permission to explore all the options. When you find it, you'll know. And like I said, whether we're talking about skincare, gym routine, spiritual practices, planning date nights, etc., the concept is the same. And it will become the routine you won't want to skip.
